About Our Company

Picture
Mark Townsend and Brice Halbrook met over 25 years ago while beginning their banking careers with Loyola Federal Savings and Loan, a 140 year old Baltimore Maryland savings bank, and now they are in their eleventh year together as Townsend & Halbrook Mortgage Corporation. They began their careers  in the mortgage business by learning solid mortgage banking principles and how to do the business "the right way". Fast forward to 2000 when the founders, after working at several companies each in different capacities, came together to form a solid business servicing the Maryland, DC and Virginia real estate markets.

Mark Townsend- Broker-Owner

A native Washingtonian, Mark Townsend has been originating first mortgages since 1985. He began his career at Loyola Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1985. In late 1986, he joined Dominion Federal Savings and Loan Association (later renamed Trustbank Savings, FSB) and worked in their Builder Services Division. In 1991, he joined Franklin Mortgage Capital Corporation until the middle of 1994. After brief stints with Crestar Mortgage Corporation and Signet Mortgage Corporation, he decided to branch out on his own and started what is today Townsend and Halbrook Mortgage Corporation.

Mark’s career has been marked by many awards as a top-producing loan originator. In the years 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990, he was the top-producing loan officer at Dominion Federal. At Franklin Mortgage Capital, Mark was the top loan originator in 1991, 1992, and 1993.

Townsend and Halbrook Mortgage Corporation was honored as the top broker in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2005 by Chevy Chase Bank. The company was sighted with similar honor in 2002 and 2003 by Washington Mutual as a Premiere Mortgage Broker. Lastly, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage honored the company for volume and quality in 2005.

Mark has focused a good deal of his efforts over the years with home builders. Most of these are small, local builders. As a result, Mark has developed a special niche for providing financing for custom homes and renovation projects. These construction/permanent mortgage transactions take advantage of Mark’s local knowledge and over 25 years of mortgage banking experience.

Mark is a 1978 graduate of Saint John’s College High School, Washington, DC. He attended Loyola College and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1983. His interests include reading and following his children’s athletic teams.

After graduating from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1977 and spending seven years in the restaurant industry Brice decided to use his economics degree in September of 1984 when he accepted a position with Loyola Federal Savings and Loan's mortgage division. Loyola is where he learned the mortgage business from construction lending, FHA, VA and conventional loans and lot financing.

In September of 1990 Brice left Loyola for a senior loan officer position with Maryland National Mortgage where he spent three years as a top producer. Throughout the 1990’s he held management positions with Ryland Mortgage Company, Weyerhaeuser Mortgage and George Mason Mortgage Corporation.  In December 2000 Brice partnered with Mark Townsend in his brokerage firm.

Brice is a board member of the Maryland Association of Mortgage Brokers, enjoys reading history, mystery novels, economics and politics.  He follows sports of all kind but especially the Maryland Terps basketball, Washington Capitals hockey, and sometimes the Redskins.  He enjoys playing golf and racquetball, is a wine enthusiast and a lover of good food.

He lives with his wife of 29 years and daughter (two sons are grown) in Poolesville Maryland, a small town in northwestern Montgomery County.  Brice calls Poolesville the best kept secret in the Washington DC metro region with top notch schools and a real all American hometown feel. Poolesville high school was recently ranked 4th in the metro region and 69th nationally by the Washington Post high school challenge index survey.

Brice has been the co-chair of Poolesville Day since 2007- check out the festival at www.poolesvilleday.com.

At the age of 16, Anh began his career as a freelance web and graphics designer, which is a business he still runs today. At the age of 20, he began his career in financial services in the summer of 2008 when he joined Premier Financial Alliance and received his license as an independent life insurance producer.
